Jaguar I-PACE (2018) Guide
Jaguar I-PACE (2018) Guide
The I-PACE marks Jaguars first foray into the world of fully electric vehicles, and it’s a good one. Instead of taking an existing model and electrifying it, Jaguar took a bold leap into the unknown, building the I-PACE from the ground up. The result is a powerful, refined and innovative electric vehicle. The combination of elegant design and long-range capabilities make this car one of the most desirable EV’s on the market today.

Charging a Jaguar I-PACE
The Jaguar I-PACE comes with a battery size of 90kWh and has an official WLTP range of 292 miles. However, the real-world range hovers around 230 miles, depending on driving factors.
Charging times will, of course, vary based on the power of the charger; a 7kW home charger, for example, will take a little under 13 hours to charge from 0% to 100%, providing an approximate range per hour of 22 miles*.
The Jaguar I-PACE has a CCS connector option enabling you to make use of the rapid charging network that is expanding across the UK. Plugged into a 150kW charging station, the Jaguar I-PACE 2will charge from 0-80% in around 40 minutes.
Note: It is worth highlighting here that the I-PACE has a max DC rate of 100kW, this means if you plugged into a 150kW charger, you would still be charging at 100kW. Its max AC rate is 7.4kW, again, if you plugged into a 22kW AC charger, the battery will charge at 7.4kW.
- 2.1kW (3-pin plug) = 34 hours for 0-80%
- 7.4kW = 12 hours for 0-100%
- 11kW = 12 hours for 0-100%
- 50kW = 85 mins for 0-80%
*Based on WLTP range
**Charging times are estimates and will vary depending on factors such as the charger in use and temperature of the battery.
Benefits of owning a Jaguar I-PACE
Classified as a BEV, the Jaguar I-PACE produces zero emissions which results in several benefits. Road tax, Ultra Low Emission Zones and London Congestion Charge all come in at an attractive £0. In addition to regular and yearly savings, the I-PACE qualifies for the OLEV Plug-in car and Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) grants.
Plus, you have the additional benefit of knowing you’re doing your part to help save the planet while delightfully cruising around in pure comfort.
What are people saying about the Jaguar I-PACE?
Although officially categorised as an SUV, in reality, the I-PACE doesn’t fit into any conventional model hierarchy, taking on a category of its own. From the outside, you would be forgiven in thinking it resembled a hatchback, but inside it opens up with spacious seating, an authoritative driving position and a 656-litre boot. The temptation is to directly compare it to Tesla’s Model X, which boasts a more extended range but costs an additional £20k; however, the I-PACE drives and performs differently to a Tesla.
The modern styling coupled with a seductive artificial spaceship sound (which is optional), its speedy, precise and powerful performance makes for a compelling EV. If that wasn’t enough, it can also handle off-roading with a matter of ease that doesn’t exist in many other comparable EV’s.
If you are looking for a family-friendly SUV that is both elegant and a pleasure to drive, the I-PACE could be the EV for you. Although the real-world range is closer to the 200-mile mark than the promoted 300-mile range, the I-PACE is still more than capable of meeting the needs of the majority of UK car owners.
